An Introduction to my blog

This blog is  a way for me to share my food and drink endeavors with interested people.  I am a self-proclaimed food and drink connoisseur that was born and raised in the Michiana region.  While I was born in Berrian Springs, Michigan I lived the majority of my 25 year old life in Mishawaka, Indiana.  After experiencing the "there's nothing to do in this town" attitudes, I decided to make the most out of what the area has to offer.  I realized that there is plenty to do around here, especially if you love to eat and drink as much as I do.

Thankfully the area has really begun to step up it's restaurant presence.  In just a few short years the region has brought in many delicious eats and drinks ranging in categories from DTSB to the Lake Michigan Shores Wine Country.  I would like to invite my fellow eaters and drinkers of all backgrounds and ages to help me cover some ground.  While I try to experience much of the what the region has to offer, there is too much for me to try it all.  Comment and share your thoughts on the local tastes and give other readers, as well as myself, recommendations to your favorite places, meals, and beverages.  Tell me your likes, your dislikes, or just post pictures of your food, I would love to see it all.

Thanks and enjoy,

Joe

  1. I, for one, commend you for shirking the burdensome, "There's nothing to do in this town," of the Michiana region. Having said that I certainly can identify with the indulging on the new boom of the restaurant market throughout Mishawaka. I'm quite interested in another's take on the various different restaurants throughout the area, and hopefully you'll bring light to a gem of a restaurant to the masses. Is their a specific kind of food that you'll be focusing on throughout this blog? Also, what would you say is your favorite kind of food? Being a quarter Italian, I can say that I'm quite partial to a good Italian cuisine.

    1. Thanks for your comment. There is not any specific kind of food that I will be sticking too. I am a food lover and will being giving my two cents on the places that I have experienced. Italian food will definitely be mentioned throughout this blog as my girlfriend also loves Italian food. She went to Italy last summer for a month so we have been trying many local places in an attempt to recreate the authentic Italian experience. A recent Italian restaurant we went to was Oliva's in Mishawaka, their stuffed mushrooms are amazing. I was also a fan of their pizza. We hope to return soon to try more of their pasta dishes.

  2. I love good food and going out and trying new things. I also enjoy taking the advise of someone who has already ventured out to these new places. The travel channel is one of my favs and your blog allows for one in the area to have a little knowledge and still have a bit of an adventure at the same time in the area we live in. I look forward to more posts in the future.

  4. I am all about trying new places for lunch/dinner! You got my attention at both food and drink because I do enjoy a nice cold beer if I'm going out to dinner. I haven't really been a fan of craft beer, but there have been multiple Brewery's opening around town so maybe it's my time to become a fan! I'm excited to read more about this!

    1. I encourage you to get out to the new breweries and try the beers, most offer flights where you can sample multiple beers and find the one(s) that are right for you. Evil Czech, which I wrote a little about in my new post, offers a variety of beers. Along with the hoppy, bold, and dark beers they also offer a handful of lighter beers that are not as full flavored. My girlfriend is a beginning beer drinker that has not found her taste for craft beer either, however whenever we go to a brewery she usually finds at least one or beers that are suitable for her. Also during the summer months the heat makes me loose a taste for heavy beer and I too try and enjoy these lighter beers. Thanks for your post I hope you enjoy the blog.

  5. Going out is one of my favorite things too! I love not having to cook, especially when I can have something cooked by someone else who is much better at it than I am. I recently have discovered Tapastrie and I love it. Amazing food and wine machines. Let that soak in. WINE MACHINES. Haha! Have you tried them out yet? Are there any restaurants up in Berrien Springs that are worth the trek?

  6. I can tell that we are going to be good friends. I love Tapastrie, it is my new favorite. Because of them I am now addicted to jamón (2 year cured pig leg), and have been contemplating making a fund to buy a leg of my own. I've been there twice but have yet to use the wine machine, although I do plan on getting to it one day. The first time my girlfriend and I went we sat at the bar so we just had the bartender give us wine recommendations and the second was during restaurant week so we just drank the wine they had on special. I do not remember the name of the wine, however i do know it was a malbec and it was one of the best that I had ever tasted. It went perfect with the Albóndigas (meatballs) and the Morcilla with quail eggs. Also their flan with the pistachio-rose petal brittle is delicious, it melts in your mouth. I could talk about Tapastrie all day.
As for Berrian Springs I do not really have any restaurant recommendations yet, however if you are a wine lover then I would recommend going to area to par-take in the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail and going and trying the many local wineries. A short drive away is one of my favorite breweries in the area. Greenbush Brewery is in Sawyer, Michigan and has great food and beer. I would recommend their sampler dinner, which includes pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, a hot link, and a side or two. It was enough for my girlfriend and I to split and even take some home and it was only around $15. Thanks for your post.
